Welcome From Dale
This year, we welcome back our partners who have organized Maker Camp in the past and new community partners organizing their first Maker Camp. We thank all for their efforts to support creative acts of making in their community. Since the first year of Maker Camp, we’ve seen it as a fantastic model for bringing young people together and creating new opportunities for them to get hands-on and experiment with doing new things. And it comes just as we need time away from computer screens.
What we know about making is that it requires both your hands and your mind to work together. It is about the creative process of taking an idea and bringing it to life using tools and materials of all kinds. That is something that most people find satisfying, and it’s vital that young people these kinds of experiences. Ultimately, you can develop a maker mindset that requires an active imagination and a determination to tackle any challenge.
Our goal is to provide you and your campers with the inspiration and the helpful guidance you need, along with many possible projects that will help fit a wide range of interests and abilities. While we could talk about STEAM or STEM or whatever buzzword you choose, the most important thing about making it is that it’s fun. We enjoy doing fun things. Only later do we realize how much we’re learning. Maker Camp participation helps establish patterns of learning that are applied repeatedly throughout the school year and all of our lives.
We’d love to hear from you and learn from what you do in your community.
