Introduction to FreeCADUpcoming

Dec 12, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm Pacific

What You'll Do:

Whether you hope to make something on the 3D printer, laser cutter, CNC router, or any other computer controlled tool, knowing how to draw precisely dimensioned parts is a critical skill. This is the role of CAD software, and FreeCAD is the pinnacle in the free and open source world.

In this course, we’ll draw household items as we learn the basics of FreeCAD. This means we’ll measure real world components, then work through the process of drawing them precisely in two and three dimensions. The result can be a DXF file ready for laser cutting or an STL file ready for 3D printing.

Skill Level:

There is no prior experience necessary.

Skills you will learn:

  • General
    • FreeCAD layout
    • navigation

About your Facilitator:

Adam is a maker emerged from the realm of mechanical engineering. He runs Vector Space, a makerspace in Lynchburg, Virginia, where making is plentiful and FreeCAD reigns supreme. He has used FreeCAD to design everything from salt and pepper shakers to Mancala boards, tool organizers, and giant mechanical clocks. He has seen many makers get lost in their first encounters with FreeCAD and is now doing his best help them navigate through it.
