Practical Projects at our Da Vinci Lab
This presentation will showcase many examples of student work at the Leysin American School in Switzerland's Da Vinci Lab Makerspace. Student projects were completed around the themes of upcycling, designing games, Rube Goldberg machines and a final inventions project. Concrete examples of student work will be shown and commentary on their effectiveness as projects in a Makerspace will be provided. Tom Cosgrove
About them: Tom is a Makerspace teacher based in Leysin, Switzerland at a small private boarding school in the Swiss Alps. Originally from Toronto Canada, Tom has spent the last 11+ years abroad teaching in public and private schools in the UK and Switzerland. Having started his career teaching math and science, he has shifted directions to the world of maker education in order to allow students to make deeper connections between all areas within STEAM and to expose students to exciting and engaging projects. Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Education degree from Brock University in Ontario, Canada and a Masters of Education from Buena Vista University in Iowa, USA.
